Sidney BC sailing
You are in experienced and capable hands on any of Desiderata‘s Sidney BC sailing trips. Your skipper, instructor and host is Darren Corbett Tomlin who was raised in the area and started his hospitality career with the Banff Springs Hotel. He worked at the Gastof Post Hotel in Lech, Austria, a small town in the Arlberg ski region. Then he opened his own mountain lodge and restaurant in Revelstoke, BC where he spent 10 years taking his guests into the back-country on skiing and snowmobile tours. Darren’s passion for the ocean drew him back to Vancouver Island to open Corbett Guest House in Sidney where his guests have a memorable visit to the Island and “Sidney by the Sea.” He is certified by the Canadian Yachting Association.
Come and join Darren for an instruction to sailing in the sun! Think of this as a mini personalised Vancouver Island sailing school. Select one of the trips and packages: an afternoon sailing trip (12 noon departure), sunset dinner cruise (4pm departure) or an overnight cruise. These are enjoyed in his Desiderata, a sleek 37 foot C&C sailboat moored at the port of Sidney. This elegant vessel sleeps two couples in private staterooms.
The deck cockpit seats six people plus the helmsman and has a small table and all-important barbecue. Non-skid decking with double rails leads to an open space at the bow. Desiderata has a main sail for speedy sailing and a jib for everyday conditions. The helm has a GPS chart, depth and speed display.
Below deck it is surprisingly spacious and is comfortably heated. There are two private staterooms, each with a queen-sized bed. A central salon has settees and a table, near the fully equipped gallery where Darren prepares tasty dinners. The “head” is much larger than you’d expect with toilet, vanity with sink and a walk-in shower with a seat (hot and cold water). Lastly, there’s a desk / navigation station.
Imagine packing a overnight bag, boarding Desiderata with the sun on your face. The boat is provisioned with fresh fruit, smoked salmon and more and has a well-equipped galley to prepare delicious West coast meals. Adventure awaits!
“We had a great stay & catching fish was the highlight of our sailing trip. Thanks for teaching us some sailing techniques. It was great to drive the boat.” Jen & Casey, Revelstoke, BC.
